The next person to join EoO: You
Submitted June 26, 2008
With the unfortunate decision of Matt “It’s not you, it’s me” Somers to step down from performing with East on Orange, the band has entered into a new period of self-discovery and experimentation. What does that mean to you, dear reader? Well, first, it means that we’ll be trying out a new scaled-back, acoustic sound for awhile. Coming soon to a coffee shop near you.
Furthermore, and more excitingly, it means that East on Orange is extending an “open-call” to musicians in the Washington, DC metro area! We’re looking to fill that bass void, but we’re not going to limit our evolution there. It doesn’t matter what instrument you play or which body part you use for musical expression. If you dig our sound and want to jam with us sometime, drop us a line and we’ll see what happens.
East on Orange: Back from hiatus!

You heard it correct... EoO is back and better than ever. And by better, we mean rusty as hell.
We finished working on our album, getting married, and growing our hair out, so we're kicking our show schedule back into high gear. Our first show is happening on February 8th at RNR in DC. This show also features the debut performance of our new buddies the Chuck Shaffer Picture Show. Come on out! Sure to be a fun time, especially since we haven't been practicing. Like, at all.
Seriously. You probably remember the songs better than we do.
Admission is cheap, and there will be a sweet afterparty. We aren't throwing it, we're just crashing it. See you there fans!
November: We wrote a song about it

It’s that time of year again—the leaves are dying, the days are getting shorter, East on Orange is finishing up on their album, and the smell of snow is lingering around in the air. In just a few short weeks, we’ll be gathered ‘round the Christmas tree, singing Jingle Bells, buying the new East on Orange album on iTunes, and digging in to that delicious Figgie pudding! MmmMmm!
On another note, a word of congratulations is in order this month: Justin, our beloved lead guitarist, tied the knot with his long-time love, Meredith. Their wedding was on October 20th, and we’ll have delectable pictures of this scrumptious event posted soon.
Seeing as how there was a wedding celebrated, as well as the release of our debut album, we’ve got our hands full and will not be playing shows for a bit. Sorry to all of you who were hoping to see us play again around the District and surrounding area; but fear not, because we’ll be up and running with newer, better, shinier shows in the relatively near future. Additionally, we’ll have a music video (God willing) that you’ll be able to check out! We shall post this, along with some documentary-style footage (as soon as I can figure out how to work Microsoft Movie Maker…) on the website and MySpace page later on down the road, as well as make it available for purchase with the CD.
So, keep checking up on us, and if you haven’t already done so, please sign up for our newsletter so you can be the first to know when the album drops! Also, we’ve started to post “sneak-peeks” of the new songs on the MySpace, so just follow the link at the bottom of the page to that listen to those. We love you all very much, and we’ll keep you updated!
New CD! And other news...
Submitted July 10, 2007
We made it through another round of the battle! Once again, East on Orange managed to bring four people to the venue and still remain victorious. However, we were forced to turn down the spot in the Semi-Finals (bummer, right?) to pursue a higher goal: the State Championship Badminton Title. That’s right, despite the injuries we’ve had this season and the loss of our coach to a freak goat-milking incident, we still played our hearts out and won that championship. Way to go, team.
In other news, we have started recording a new CD. This will most likely be a two part process where we spend entirely too much money on recording two separate sets of songs. We’ve already begun work on the first five tracks and will proceed to finish the others come autumn. Additionally, Chaz and Justin had a love-child whom we’ve affectionately named Lawrence. He will be doing backup vocals in the upcoming album, as well as selected key-tar solos throughout “Roman Catholic.”
As some of you may already know, Josh was involved in an accident rendering him limbless; that’s right—no arms and no legs. However, with the band money that was saved up, we were able to purchase new extremities for him. Ask to see the scars—they’re pretty gruesome. What you didn’t know, though, is that he has written a book and is currently searching for publication. The book will (maybe) be available for purchase at shows ten years from now.
We Advance. Booya.

The night was long. The competition was stiff. The venue was… skank. We toughed it out, pushed through the anxiety and loose bowels, and gave it our best shot. And, amidst the drunken chaos of a crowded and dilapidated bar in Fairfax, which was still convalescing from the brutal battle that took place on its stage, winners arose and basked in the splendor of their triumph. East on Orange became winners.
So, we think the Battle of the Bands (round 1) at TT Reynolds went pretty well. Okay, we didn’t get the crowd vote, we were one of 4 bands that advanced, and we’ve got 2 more rounds to go before being finalists, but you can pry our trophy (the trophy is figurative; there is no trophy) from our cold dead fingers.
There were some highlights. The first band played “Scotty Doesn’t Know,” which was in our set too. We met The Dirty Jenkins, and they’re great guys in addition to having a first rate act (they advanced also). Oh, and Baktufred was amazing, and pretty much blow us out of the water instrumentally. We’ll have to rely on our crowd schmoozing to beat them in the next round. We'll buy the whole venue drinks.
Round 2 is on May 19th at the Broad Street Tavern in Falls Church. Buy tickets online again, and remember to enter our code (dc004). Or you can buy tickets straight from us.
East on Orange songs FREE for download
Submitted March 28, 2007
Yup. Free. Go to our music page and download any or all three of our recorded songs in mp3 format. You know what else? The songs don’t have any Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption on them. That’s a good thing for you. Truthfully, we wouldn’t know how to encrypt the songs if we wanted to, but more importantly, EoO disagrees with the concept. The Apple iTunes store puts DRM on all downloads (at the request of the recording companies), which basically limits you to only putting the music on an iPod, and keeps you from sharing your purchased songs.
Since we don’t work for a record label, we have the luxury of being able to give our music away as we please. So go ahead, download “Picturesque.” Put it on your iPod. Burn it to a CD and sell it to a friend. Put it on MySpace and claim your wrote it. Honestly, all we care about is sharing our tunes. Three songs are up now… more will follow! Subscribe to our newsletter (at the bottom of this page) to be the first to know when new songs go up.
